May’s here, and most motorcyclists already have their bikes out, or they’re at least getting ready for riding season. May is also Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Canada.
Here’s what the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada had to say: “May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Canada. MCC encourages motorcyclists to ride safely and we remind all road users to watch out for motorcyclists as peak riding season begins. Motorcycles are primary transportation for many people. Safe Riding Everyone! Motorcycle Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility.“
In other words, pay attention, cagers! Bikes are back out for 2021!
Will 2021 be a busy riding year, as the coronavirus pandemic drags on? We saw big increases in offroad bike sales in 2020, and street bike sales held fairly steady; so far this year, motorcycle sales are strong. It looks like motorcycling is finally getting the respect it deserves, as a socially-distanced activity!
With that in mind, it’s not a bad idea to remind everyone to keep an eye out for bikes. The MCC actually has resources to help with this. Head over to the Motorcycling.ca website, and you can find printable posters, as well as Zoom meeting backgrounds, a printable logo and other materials you can include in emails or use in other ways to remind people to watch for bikes.
