Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association is back on track

The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association is back to business, after missing the first race weekend of the season due to COVID-19.

Like most motor racing series, the CMDRA ran into trouble when the coronavirus pandemic interrupted its 2020 plans. Social distancing rules make it hard to go racing, so the May 23-24 event in Mission, BC, was cancelled.

However, the bikes were back at it last weekend (June 20-21) in Rimbey, Alberta, and it looks like the rest of the season is a go. There’s another set of races July 4-5 in Rimbey, followed by August 8-9 races in Prince George, BC. On August 29-30, CMDRA returns to Alberta, with a round in Edmonton. The last event of the season is September 12-13 in Medicine Hat.

You can see the results from the Rimbey opener here, although a rain-out meant not all the elimination rounds were completed. For details on schedule changes and pix, your best bet is to keep an eye on the CMDRA Facebook page. If you’re looking to attend a race this year, be aware that social distancing rules may limit spectators at events. That means, if you want to watch the races, make sure you show up early.

At this point, the CMDRA series is based in Western Canada, although there has been an eastern division in past years. The CMDRA has classes for motorcycles ranging from bone-stock Harley-Davidson 883 Sportsters, all the way to nitromethane-burning V-twin dragsters.
