It’s the ultimate April Fool’s gag on the competition, albeit a couple of days late.
BMW, after much teasing, says it will introduce its new R18 cruiser on April 3, ending the months of show appearances, custom builds and other marketeering it’s used to promote the machine. No more games—we should know all then. Well, except maybe MSRP and availability, but that’s to be expected.
BMW says the premiere of this machine will be the highlight of the company’s year, and that it’s part of a growth strategy to become frontrunner in the premium motorcycle segment. Tough talk indeed, considering it’s going up against big-bike giants like Indian and Harley-Davidson. Will BMW succeed? On April 3, we should have a good idea.
