Andrea Iannone remains under suspension, but court decision coming soon

After his appearance before the International Disciplinary Court yesterday, Andrea Iannone remains suspended, after the FIM officially confirmed his second drug result was positive.

Iannone’s urine sample tested positive for a banned substance (allegedly, an anabolic steroid) after the Sepang test on November 3, 2019. He’s been suspended ever since December 17, barred from partaking in a FIM-sanctioned racing series.

As a result of the suspension, Iannone will not be aboard his factory Aprilia bike for this week’s Sepang testing. He’s presenting evidence to the International Disciplinary Court (a hair sample from September, supposedly) that he hopes will prove he was not intentionally doping—he claims to have accidentally ingested the substance while eating.

The court will hand down its decision in 10 days; the prosecution gets five days to make its case, and then Iannone’s team gets five days to make a rebuttal.
