The 2019 motorcycles sales numbers are coming in from various manufacturers now, and the news is good for BMW Motorrad.
BMW’s global motorcycle deliveries hit the 175,162 units mark in 2019, an increase of 5.8 per cent over the year before (165,566 units for 2018). This means this is the ninth straight year for record BMW sales.
BMW sold 26,292 bikes in Germany last year, its greatest market. That’s an increase of 10.4 per cent. Across the EU, sales rose 7 per cent in total. In the Canada/US market, BMW was able to “maintain its strong position” with 15,116 units sold.
BMW sold 59,000 of its Shiftcam R1250 GS series, more than 29,000 of the F750/F850 series, and more than 20,000 of the G310 series.
As for Ducati—the number weren’t as great, but at least the company held its ground.
In 2019, Ducati delivered 53,183 units worldwide, up from 53,004Â units in 2018. The good news is that sales were up in China, Spain and France; Brazil saw a whopping 20 per cent growth.
The bad news is that although sales were essentially flat, Ducati actually opened 54 new dealerships around the world in 2020, for only 179 more sales. However, it says its Panigale models (both the V-twin and V4 machines) now make up 25 per cent of the world’s superbike market, so that’s got to be positive for the bigwigs in Bologna.
