Could a Tesla dirt bike happen?

When he isn’t building wacko conceptualizations of electric pickup trucks or selling flamethrowers to the public, Elon Musk is a busy man on Twitter. And Musk, the founder of controversial electric transportation company Tesla (among many other things), has managed to somehow stir the pot even more, with a tweeted suggestion that he’s thinking about building a dirt bike.

Musk was tweeting away about yet another Tesla project, an ATV, when he typed out the following (emphasis ours): “We’ll aim to have it come out same time as truck. Two seater electric ATV designed to work with Cybertruck will be fun! Electric dirt bikes would be cool too. We won’t do road bikes, as too dangerous. I was hit by a truck & almost died on one when I was 17.”

Interesting! Many insiders and journalists have massive reservations about Musk’s plans (hard not to, as they seem to mostly be a hybrid of David Suzuki’s ideas with a Bond villain’s plan). Yet, Musk has certainly designed vehicles that people want, despite the problems in bringing them to market. The just-unveiled Cybertruck already has 250,000 pre-orders, and if Tesla was to sell a dirt bike, the attention would be instantaneous.

  1. The Tesla Semi factory was also supposed to be popping out big trucks in 2019 too. It might happen in the next 20 days, but I doubt it…

    • “He’ll woo you with his hate of carbon, filling the air with techno-jargon … beware of ELON MUSK!” — to be sung to the tune of Hank Scorpio’s theme

    • Elon Musk always promises far more than he can deliver, however, even his delayed and broken promises are still pretty impressive. The Model X came two years late with quality issues but now you can buy what is essentially a 7 passenger mini-van that out-accelerates a Lamborghini or Ferrari and pretty much any production motorcycle ever made. Tesla’s aren’t for everyone and Elon Musk is an eccentric dreamer but you have to be impressed with what was created thus far. I don’t own a Tesla and likely never will but have driven a few. The acceleration is aptly named “Ludicrous”.
