Another Euro motorcycle brand has been taken over by an Asian manufacturing giant, with Mahindra buying the remainder of the Peugeot Motorcycles business.
Mahindra is best-known for tractors and other heavy equipment in North America, but has lots of motorcycle business elsewhere in the world. It already controlled Peugeot Motorcycles, owning 51 per cent of the company. Now, it owns the rest of the Peugeot motorcycle business (not the auto business, of course—that’s a different entity).
Peugeot has already been building scooters and parts in China for years. No word on whether the buyout means production will move to India, but ironically, the official line is that the deal is intended to sell more motorcycles in France. We’ll see! According to reports, new models are coming soon from Peugeot, and maybe those will spark interest?
