Ducati launches new Scrambler Icon Dark, teases Desert X

Along with all its high-horsepower machinery unveiled earlier this week, Ducati also had stuff at the other end of the spectrum: the Scrambler Icon Dark, and the Desert X concept.

The Scrambler Icon Dark is pretty much the same thing as the current Icon model, the basic entry-level machine in that lineup. It’s got the same technical touches (cornering ABS remains standard), but has flashy trim stripped away in favour of a blacked-out finish.

The Scrambler Icon Dark isn’t on the Canadian website yet, and we’ve seen no indication of pricing or availability in our market. However, we’d expect it for spring of 2020, and coming in at a price lower than the current Icon model (currently carrying a $10,795 MSRP).

Despite the rugged-sounding name, the Scrambler Icon Dark is not intended to be a hard-core offroad bike. Ducati did reveal another bike along those lines, or at least a prototype.

Ducati’s slide show also had images of a machine called the Desert X, sort of a retro rally-style adventure bike. There wasn’t much information on the bike, just a photo, but it appears to be aimed at the same basic market as the Moto Guzzi V85 TT, a throwback machine for the rally raid fan. We’re guessing we’ll see the bike unveiled in full at EICMA.
