The much-hyped Triumph Street Triple RS is here, officially breaking cover overseas today.
As was expected, the machine has the same Moto2-derived engine as the latest special-edition Daytona, giving the RS a boost to 121 hp and 58 lb-ft of torque. The previous RS made 116 hp, with 57 lb-ft of torque.
The gearbox has been re-worked, and tweaks to the cam and exhaust systems are supposedly responsible for more mid-range and top-end torque. A slip/assist clutch is standard.
The engine has an up/down quickshifter as well, and five riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport, Track, Rider-configurable). Brakes are top-shelf (Brembo four-piston calipers up front), as are the fully-adjustable Showa forks and Ohlins STX40 shock.
ABS is standard, and can be adjusted or switched off. Switchable traction control is also standard.
The headlights and daytime running lights have been re-designed, but sadly have not reverted to the googly-eyed look of the previous decade.
The Street Triple RS has a TFT screen instead of traditional gauges, and it can connect to GoPro cameras and mobile devices wirelessly, allowing you to control your action cam from the bike’s dash, or follow turn-by-turn navigation.
The Street Triple RS has Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires front and rear.
We certainly expect the Street Triple RS in our market, as it’s already on Triumph’s Canadian website (we haven’t seen an MSRP yet, though). Costa’s riding it this week, so you’ll soon know what it’s all about!
