Looks like Ewan and Charley will be riding Harley-Davidson LiveWires for Long Way Up

It’s been rumoured for a few days now, and a fresh set of Instagram snaps from the weekend seem to confirm it: Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman will be riding Harley-Davidson LiveWires for their upcoming Long Way Up TV special.

Long Way Up will be the sequel to Long Way Round (Ewan and Charley’s round-the-world journey) and Long Way Down (their UK-South Africa journey), both of which were filmed along the way and released as television series. Long Way Up will show an Argentina-Alaska adventure.

The first two series were filmed riding BMWs, but there’s been no official announcement regarding their choice of bike this time around. However, a shipment of interesting vehicles, including two adventure-kitted Harley-Davidson LiveWires, recently showed up in Argentina. It’s been photographed with suggestion it was Ewan and Charley’s convoy. The vehicles also include two electric Rivian R1T pickup trucks and a big diesel truck.

Does that look like Ewan McGregor in Argentina?

Now, Instagram has photos submitted from Argentina that do seem to show Ewan McGregor bombing around the Ushaia area on an ADV-ready LiveWire.

If this is indeed happening, it’s a bold move for Harley-Davidson, as nobody’s done anything like this on an electric motorcycle before. A successful trip will help boost the MoCo’s profile in the ADV segment, as it’s trying to make inroads there. A series of failures would be a very bad thing, due to the timing.

  1. Tell me this isn’t true. I was thinking a Moto Guzzi V85 TT for Ewan and perhaps a Triumph Scrambler 1200 for Charlie. Hoping might be a word. I am honestly very excited to see this adventure but i’m a little underwhelmed by this news.

  2. What a clever way to solve the pure-electric vehicles’ range problem in remote areas…. Get a big diesel truck with a large generator to follow you around!!! I wonder if Harley-Davidson is planning to offer the “Diesel Buddy” option for non-city LiveWire riders? 🙂 🙂

  3. So, if I by the $55k Cdn Long-way-up adventure edition Livewire, does it come with a Rivian + support driver and a long extension cord to allow me to ride more than the 142 kms mixed city/highway range between 12 hour recharges (because I couldn’t find any level 3 chargers in the Amazon)?
