Woolf Moto wristband will warn you about speed cameras

Tired of getting tickets from speed cameras? Italian outfit Woolf Moto can help, with gear that warns you of upcoming speed cameras by haptic feedback.

Many motorists hate speed cameras, viewing them as arbitrary fundraising equipment that pays no attention to the reality of traffic conditions. But the good thing about speed cameras is, they don’t move around much. Google’s Waze navigation app and other similar GPS software makes it easier to avoid them. That’s OK if you’re in a car, but what about your motorcycle?

Woolf’s answer to the problem is to make a wristband that vibrates when you approach a speed camera, alerting you of its presence.

It works by integrating with a smartphone, which you must carry at the same time. The smartphone sends a signal to the wristband via Bluetooth, letting you know when you’re in the danger zone. There’s no monthly subscription fee to use the wristband, and it works on more than 120,000 speed cameras in more than 70 countries.

The speed camera warning device does not require an ongoing mobile data connection; periodic updates to the app will make sure it has current speed camera locations, but those updates can be done over wi-fi.

The wristband’s battery charge is said to last a month.

Note that in some jurisdictions, this may be illegal technology, but as far as we know, speed camera warning devices are not illegal anywhere in Canada (unlike radar detectors, which are banned in several provinces).

Interested? The Woolf wristband is pricey, but so are speeding tickets. Visit Woolf’s website to see the different styles available, starting at €149.
