KTM may have just introduced its 790 parallel twin platform, but there are already rumours of an 890 cc version coming soon.
The 799 cc engine made its official market debut at the 2017 EICMA show, in time for the 2018 riding season. Here in Canada, we’ll see the 790 Duke and 790 Adventure models on the streets for this season, since they didn’t show up until late last year.
But even though we haven’t really had a chance to see how the new engine performs (outside magazine tests, of course), Asphalt & Rubber is sharing an insider’s tip that KTM is building an 890 cc version already.
While that would be a pretty quick turnover by modern standards, it would be about par for the course with KTM. The Austrian company has upgrading its bigger bikes on a fairly brisk schedule. For evidence, see how quickly the 1190 models turned into the 1290 line.
A&R also points out KTM’s promise of a new middleweight lineup, possibly in the 500 range, coming soon. Team Orange has already come a long, long way from just being a dirt bike company, and a range of 500-class bikes would give it one of the most well-rounded showroom lineups in the industry.
