Check out these Canadian motorcycle rallies this summer

Backroad Ball co-founder Kristin Munro says events like hers attract riders who want the camaraderie of a smaller rally where they can have fun with friends instead of strangers.

Editor’s note: This is the time of year that many Canadians start booking their summer vacation. With that in mind, here’s a list of several Canadian moto-gatherings (some rallies, some other events) that you should keep in mind when planning your summer getaway! Most of them are on weekends, so they wouldn’t interfere with local riders’ plans anyway, but if you have to travel to make the event, you’ll likely want to plan ahead.

Freedom Machine

Toronto area, July 13

Those trendy hipster custom motorcycle shows are all based in the US, right? Wrong! Ontario has its own take on the concept, the Freedom Machine show, just outside Durham, Ontario, at the Frontier Ghost Town campground. A grassroots custom bike rally in an old western film set with a hippy vibe? It’s a rad idea, and the sort of thing you’d expect to get in California. Mad props to organizers for putting this together in our own back yard.

In 2019, Freedom Machine runs July 13, with many goers camping on either side of the actual show day. It’s the event’s fifth year, and if you want to see Canada’s best-known custom builders and their choppers, cafe racers, bobbers, brats, scramblers, flat trackers and whatever else, then it’s the place to be. If you’re building your own bike, you can also buy parts from vendors, or at least a cool T-shirt — everyone knows that’s what’s really important, after all. There’s music and other general partying at the show as well. Head to the show’s site (by clicking on the linked headline above) for more details, and see our story about it here.

  1. Me and my cousins go to the Atlanticade Rally in Moncton, NB. held the third week of june. Great folks running it, well organized and they break up large group rides into smaller groups of 25, which is safer and gives you a chance to get to know the folks your riding with. Don’t miss it.

  2. Is this a printed magazine or just on line?? Reason I ask is my wife and 6 of her friends are on the cover and would love to get them a copy for a keep sake.

  3. There *IS* a Horizons Unlimited Mountain Madness (HUMM) in Canada (BC) this year!! HUMM Monashees, July 19-21, 2019, also in Nakusp, BC… the weekend after the Canwest Travellers Meeting, so may as well make a family holiday of it. The dual sport and off-road riding in the area is stellar.
