Jarvish has unveiled its new X-AR and X smart helmets, offering a considerable range of up-to-date tech.
Both helmets offer voice control, active noise cancellation, built-in 2K video camera, wireless or wired charging, and integration with voice activated AI (Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, OK Google). There’s no touch-activation, meaning riders won’t have to memorize a sequence of buttons to turn features on and off, which is a constant irritation with some current aftermarket comms systems. The helmets are also capable of livestreaming to Facebook, YouTube, etc
That’s a lot of high-end gadgetry, but the X-AR helmet adds a heads-up display as well. It also has a rear-facing 2K video camera to give riders 360º visibility.
Both helmets carry ECE R22.05 (Europe, Australia), DOT (US and Canada), CNS 2396, CNS 13438 and CNS 13439 safety ratings, which is a major step up from some other smart helmets that have dropped on the market with wimpy safety ratings.
So where can you buy one? Here’s the catch. First off, while Jarvish claims its helmets are already in use in Asia, they’re currently going through a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds, and they’re not supposed to be officially for sale for a while yet. The Kickstarter campaign will no doubt scare off some potential buyers, as they’re asking for huge money up front ($399 US for the X, $899 for the X-AR). That will mean big money savings when the helmet comes to market, but if the helmet doesn’t come to market, or gets delayed indefinitely, or turns out to be a failure for some reason, well, you’re out lots of cash. Bummer.
