Supermoto madness: KTM announces all-new 690 SMC R

KTM has just pulled the wraps off a new 690 SMC R supermoto for the hooligans out amongst us.

KTM’s had these in the lineup before, but it’s been a while since they’ve been available. So what do you get? The SMC R packs the latest version of KTM’s highly potent big bore single, with 74 horsepower and 54 lb-ft of torque, as previously seen in Husqvarna’s 701 lineup and the KTM Duke 690 R. The transmission is a six-speed, and there’s an anti-hop clutch.

All those braps are backed up with a quickshifter and angle-dependent traction control. And, the bike has Street and Sport driving modes.

Not enough for you? How about ABS with supermoto mode, allowing you to perform all manner of hoonery with a sliding rear wheel, but keeping the front brake out of trouble?

The 690’s frame is an all-new steel tube arrangement, and gas tank is made of plastic. As you’d expect with a KTM product, the suspension is via WP, with 48 mm USD APEX front forks.

Up front, there’s a solo 400 mm disc with four-piston caliper. In rear, there’s a single-piston caliper and 240 mm disc.

The rims are 17-inchers with spoked rims. Tires are 160/60 ZR 17 in rear, 120/70 ZR 17 up front. Dry weight is said to be approximately 147 kg.

Right now, KTM has not confirmed this machine for Canada.
