Just as everyone expected, Husqvarna has unveiled the Svartpilen 701 production bike, along with the cool-looking Vitpilen 701 Aero concept.
The Svartpilen 701 was expected ever since the 401 version broke cover a while back; the concept version debuted last fall. The production version is basically the same idea; a very modern, up-to-date single cylinder motor in a very competent chassis, mixed in with what Husqvarna calls “flat-track-inspired” bodywork.
So, that means a 75 hp motor, with 53 lb-ft of torque, most likely. Husqvarna has confirmed a slipper clutch with up/down quickshifter and ride-by-wire throttle, which in turn enables traction control.
There’s a chrome-moly steel frame, fully-adjustable WP suspension, and Brembo brakes (320 mm front disc, 240 mm rear disc) combined with a switchable Bosch ABS system, just in case you need to hoon.
Husqvarna’s design means this machine has higher-mount handlebars, and a tail section that looks similar to a classic flat-tracker with number plates. The fuel tank is a slim, 12-litre unit, like something you’d see on a tracker. The front wheel is an 18-incher, the rear is a 17-incher, but they’re alloy rims, not spoked. Tires are Pirelli MT60s. Suspension is 150 mm front and rear.
Other than that, there’s not much in the way of details. But, Husqvarna says this machine will be in dealers for spring season in 2019.
What about the Vitpilen 701 Aero Concept? Obviously, it’s based on the Vitpilen 701, the neo retro cafe racer. Basically, it’s just a set of sporty bodywork, but dang, if doesn’t look cool. Expect this to become a production model as long as Husky sees demand.
