Behold the new Ducati Hypermotard 950 (and the Hypermotard 950 SP)

As expected, Ducati has updated its big bore supermoto lineup, with new Hypermotard 950 (pictured above) and Hypermotard 950 SP models (pictured below).

The base Hypermotard 950 benefits from a revised 937 cc Testastretta L-twin, making 114 hp at 9,000 rpm and 70 lb-ft of torque, which is mostly available low in the rev range (“80% is already available at 3,000 rpm,” says the Ducati presser). Ducati reckons this makes for “the perfect engine for ultimate on-track sports fun, twisting country roads and everyday urban routes alike.

Of course, the electronics package has also been upgraded to handle the improved engine. There’s a six-axis IMU that powers Bosch cornering ABS (with slide-by-brake function), traction control, wheelie control, up/down quickshifter (optional on the standard Hypermotard, but standard on the SP model).

The riding position has been revised for more comfort and easier control—there’s a new seat, wider handlebars, and the bike is slimmer, which makes for a shorter reach to the ground (53 mm less inseam measurement now).

The bike has dropped 4 kg, partially due to the new engine but also due to a new frame, new rims, new brake discs and new Marzocchi forks.

The clutch is now hydraulically operated, and of course, the bodywork and general styling is new. There’s even a new TFT dash, with design cues lifted from the Panigale V4.

The Hypermotard 950 SP has slightly different graphics and seat, upgraded suspension, up/down quickshifter as standard and some other tweaks.

If you want even more motorcycle, you can pony up for the Hypermotard 950 SP, with a different seat and graphics and (more importantly) increased-travel Ohlins suspension (+15 mm of travel at the front, +25 mm at the rear) which makes for more lean angle. There are Marchesini forged wheels, and as said earlier, the Ducati Quick Shift is standard.

Both bikes can also integrate with the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), which “lets riders connect the bike to a smartphone and manage key multimedia functions (incoming calls, text messaging, music) via switchgears, and display the relative information on the TFT instrument panel.
