It’s a big day for MV Agusta. The Italian manufacturer has announced a new naked bike with 212 hp, confirmed other projects are underway, and also says it’s raised €40 million in funding from investors and appointed a new CEO.
First news first: That hot new naked bike is the latest version of the MV Agusta Brutale, long reckoned one of the nastiest naked bikes from Europe. MV Agusta says the all-new 1000 cc machine will have 212 hp, which would make it the most powerful naked bike ever built. Top speed is a claimed 312 km/h, which would make it the fastest naked bike ever built. And, that’s all the details MV Agusta is sharing for now, but we do expect to see more when the bike is unveiled next week at EICMA.
MV Agusta also confirmed it has resumed development work on a new 1000 cc inline-four superbike project. For a while now, as money has been tight for the company, superbike development has stalled. Now, it’s back to business as usual.
Finally, about all that money: MV Agusta says it’s brought in another €40 million from investors to help it bring the business forward. It seems to all be part of a restructuring plan that’s been going on for a while, as along with that news, MV Agusta also says Giovanni Castiglioni has moved from CEO to president of the company. Russian investor Timur Sardarov is now the new CEO and chairman of the board. It seems the restructuring in coming months will echo what we’ve seen in the past few years; in an attempt to get the financials turned around, MV Agusta is actually planning to streamline its dealer network and open more brand-specific stores, with major plans for MV-only shops in cities like London and Moscow. That may mean we’ll have to wait longer for the Canadian dealer situation to be sorted out.
