Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory: Electronic suspension for 2019

For some time now, Aprilia has been at the forefront of the electronics arms race, and for 2019, the Tuono V4 1100 Factory continues to battle on, with fancy-pants suspension from Ohlins.

Most of the bike is pretty much the same as the 2018 model, but there’s a major upgrade in the suspension department. Next year’s model will have SmartEC 2.0 NIX forks and SmartEC 2.0 shock in back. There’s also an electronic steering damper from Ohlins.

All this gadgetry is tied together with an ECU that Ohlins and Aprilia built together, which offers not only automatic semi-active suspension management (settings for Road, Sport and Track) but also a manual setting. Here, the rider can fine-tune their suspension settings by interfacing through the TFT dash. Otherwise, they can sit back and let the bike’s brain manage the suspension’s settings in real time.

Much of the rest of the machine is familiar territory, with cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and launch control, just like the outgoing model. No word yet on when, or if, it’s coming to Canada, or a price tag for our market.
