Newly unearthed patent drawings seem to confirm the Indian FTR1200 is headed for production, and will likely be unveiled soon.
The bike’s final form will be considerably different from the FTR750 concept bike that spurred so much interest when it debuted at Sturgis. While that machine was a lean, mean stripped-down factory racer, the FTR1200 uses a street-tuned engine and is most definitely aimed at roadway riding, not track use.
It is, however, a proper-looking naked bike, if these patent drawings (we saw them on Asphalt & Rubber) can be believed. Details like underseat fuel tank and radially-mounted brakes show Indian is doing the basic things right, even if it isn’t as svelte as the exciting race-biased prototype. We’d expect to see the bike this fall, at either Intermot or EICMA, but until then, you can check out the drawings below and argue about whether or not you’d buy this machine.
