Those scalawags at the California Air Resource Board have spilled the beans again. This time, they’ve tipped the world to new models coming from BMW.
According to documents filed at CARB and unearthed by the keen-eyed scribes at Motorcycle.com., BMW is planning to update its flat twin platform next year. The R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure, R1200RT, R1200RS and R1200R will all be growing to 1254 cc. The new platform will be dubbed the R1250, so those machines will be renamed the R1250GS, R1250GS Adventure, etc., etc.
Along with the 84 cc displacement bump, there’s conjecture the new engines will feature variable valve timing. Of course, emissions will be lowered despite the increased engine size, as OEMs are now being forced to constantly update their lineup to meet increasingly stringent anti-pollution laws, particularly in the EU where BMW is based.
We’ll most likely see the new Beemers unveiled at the Intermot show, which runs Oct. 2-3.
Cool. If true, this should help drive down the prices of used 1200s. Might finally bring a late model R1200RT into my price range. I could afford to buy a new one, I’m just too cheap, lol.
Looks like this year Intermot and EICMA will be worth following….
