Ana Carrasco made racing history last weekend by taking pole at Imola’s WorldSSP300 race, then winning and moving into the points lead for the series. That makes her the first female rider in history to lead a world championship.

Carrasco’s paid her dues in feeder series for years, seeing some success aboard KTMs in Moto3 before moving over to WorldSSP300. She won her first race there in 2017, at Portimao, finishing the season in eighth overall. This weekend was her first pole, aboard a Kawasaki Ninja 400.

Now, she’s sitting on 48 points, three points up on second-place Luca Grunwald. Given the scrappy nature of the the 300 series, she’ll have to fight hard if she wants to maintain that lead.
