Quebec’s well-known Autodrome St-Eustache roadracing track is set to close at the end of the 2019 season.
St-Eustache featured as the sole Quebec stop on the Canadian Superbike schedule for many years, and was reckoned to be one of the top roadracing facilities in that province, although it is shorter than the other CSBK tracks and was considered by some to be in rough shape, despite ownership’s efforts to keep it up. Currently, Jordan Szoke holds the Pro Superbike lap record at the 10-turn, 1.2-mile track (00:44.812, set in 2015), and Jodi Christie holds the Pro Sport Bike lap record (00:45.872, set in 2011).
The track is closing as the city of St-Eustache and Hydro Quebec have teamed up to expropriate the property, meaning all motorsports activity will cease at the end of the 2019 season—and that’s about all we know. How about Mont Tremblant? CSBK used to go there…great track!!
I grew up near St. Eustache and raced there in the 70’s. Having grown up on potholed roads made me an expert on this track, one of the worst I’d ever seen. How they race superbikes on this track today amazes me. For the safety of the riders, I’d be happy to see it gone but it leaves a hole in the schedule and Quebec has been a strong supporter of the series. If they want to continue a race in this area, they might consider a Quebec version of the Isle of Mann TT and race on the roads I grew up on north of Lachute, potholes and unleashed dogs, would make for a great race!
