Canadian riders bring home X Games gold, silver in snowcross

Canadian riders Cody Matechuk and Brock Hoyer won gold and silver medals respectively in the Snow BikeCross competition during the weekend’s X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

Hoyer was the defending champion in this event, but Matechuk (who won bronze last year) put on several strong performances over the weekend and finished with an 8-second lead over Hoyer in the final. Hoyer, in turn, had an impressive 14-second lead over third-place Kory Kamm.

Both riders were on Yamaha YZ450Fs, with track kits from Yeti  (Matechuk) and Timbersled (Hoyer).

With the X Games (arguably the world’s most famous snowcross race) out of the way, Matechuk and Hoyer’s next big event is the Canadian Snow Bike MX Nationals, running in Sicamous, BC, on February 10. For more details on that event, visit the website.

  1. Big deal about the Harley-Davidson hillclimb, the modified Sportster, etc. Not a whisper about the makes of the bikes that actually won. KTMs I think.
