Denny Morrison back on the Canadian Olympic team

Almost three years after a serious motorcycle crash, speedskater Denny Morrison is headed back to the Winter Olympics.

Morrison (who’s won gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals) made headlines in early 2015 when he crashed his sport bike, smashing into a Corolla with enough force to flip the car over. You’d think that would be a career-ending event for an athlete; Morrison ended up with a broken leg, punctured lung, torn knee ligament, fractured bone in his spine, bruising of some internal organs and a concussion. Then, a few months after, he suffered a stroke.

Yet, Morrison has overcome all that to return to the Canadian Olympic team. He qualified last weekend, and says his goal now is a medal at the games in South Korea. Considering he was part of Canada’s team that won a gold in pursuit at the speedskating World Cup this December, Morrison just might do it.
