Honda NC750X: Upgraded again for 2018

The Honda NC750X has been upgraded again for 2018, with traction control added, along with a higher rev limit.

The traction control can be switched on or off, and the higher rev limit now goes from 6,600 rpm to 7,500 rpm. Every time CMG has ridden a derivative of that engine, the tester has been discontented with the low redline, so this is definitely a welcome upgrade. However, there’s no word as to whether the CTX700T (which uses the same motor) will get the same upgrade.

From the numbers we’ve seen max output on the NC750X remains at 54 hp and 50 lb-ft of torque.

The upgraded NC750X will be coming to Canada, but we don’t know pricing or availability yet.

  1. I still can’t understand the low rev limiter issues a lot of people have or think they have. I owned a NC700S and I would like to say I ride rather spirited and never had an issue with the rev limiter. Nobody seems to complain about a Harley or older BMW boxers having to low a rev limit? Just adjust to it and shift early with out ringing the neck of the bike all the time. I currently ride a Honda ST1300 and I rarely get past the 6000 rpm line, before the NC700S I had a Kawasaki Versys and I never found myself revving that why up there at the red line. What fore? All the torque that moves the bike is well below that.

    • We’ve been through this before on here, but … it’s all about haptic feedback. You approach redline on a Big Twin, you know it. You approach redline on the NC series, you hear the rev limiter.

      • Yes Zac, I can agree to that. The engine is so mellow or under stressed for lack of better words, that you get up to max revs without noticing it straining.

  2. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I test rode the last version. I had heard all the complaints about the redline and decided to ride it like a Buell, or any Harley. Going in with that mindset I really enjoyed it. Much more than any review that I have read.

  3. When buying my current bike, the dealership didn’t have it ready on the promised day, so they lent me a NC750 to poke around on until my bike was ready the next day.

As entertaining as the frunk was, my main takeaway was the same as CMG’s Reviewers… The redline was frustratingly low, and that put a damper on my enthusiasm for what was otherwise an interesting urban-focused bike.

    • I just rode one of these around Spain for a week. Yep the redline is a real issue. I’m 6’2” and found the riding condition cramped. It just felt uninspired and underpowered to me.
