It has already been available in Europe for years, and now the Yamaha XSR700 is coming to the Canadian market.
The retro-flavoured XSR700 (built around the FZ-07 platform) debuted as a fall arrival in 2015, but has never made it to our shores (the similar XSR900 has been available here for a while). Like the FZ-07, it’s powered by a liquid-cooled 689 cc parallel twin that puts out decent power (50 lb-ft of torque), with a reasonable weight (186 kg. wet weight). When it debuted, Yamaha touted it as an homage to the classic XS650 parallel twin; frankly, it shares nothing with the XS650 visually or mechanically, but it’s nice to see Yamaha paying tribute to its four-stroke roots.
The Yamaha Canada website has a $9,599 MSRP for the XSR700. It’s an early release 2018 model (should be in showrooms here this fall). It will be available in red or grey. I have a question that Yamaha Canada refuse to answer: will they have the speedometer convertible to MPH ( as do the US version) ? And will they allow Canadian XSR 700 to be driven across the border? They told me ( Scott and Remi from Yamaha Canada) that all there motorcycles where intended for Canadian road use only.
where is the sr400 in canada already!
The SR400 is on its death bed in Japan. Unless they’ve been quietly working on a new model that meets Euro4 regs, I suspect the old girl will just disappear into the history books.
For $1600 more than an FZ-07 (and $150 less than an FZ-09)?! What is Yamaha thinking with this bizarre pricing?
