BMW introduces optional 6.5-inch TFT screen with connectivity functions

BMW’s  R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure models are about to get an optional new TFT screen with connectivity functions, and the technology will be available for other bikes in the future.

Some BMW models have come equipped with technology-connected TFT screens in the past, but never with this advanced. The screen not only displays the usual array of inflight technology found on BMW’s high-end models (rpm, speed, tire pressures, etc.), but also allows the user to access navigation details, music playback, telephone calls, and other information.

The TFT display can be managed by a handlebar control on the left grip, and can also integrate with the rider’s smartphone and helmet headset. BMW also recommends touring riders integrate the display unit with the BMW Motorrad Navigator, which allows motorcycle-friendly GPS navigation. See more details in the BMW presentation above.

  1. Only functions critical to the operation of the motorcycle are displayed. Facebook, phone calls? And motorcyclist fatality rates are about to rise again, this time without the involvement of car drivers.
