Harley-Davidson has teamed up with Vance & Hines to build a new drag bike out of its Street Rod 750.
For a while, Harley-Davidson’s stock, over-the-counter drag bike was the V-Rod Destroyer, built (as the name implies) around the V-Rod platform. But it’s been several years since that bike came out, and with that platform already discontinued in some markets, Harley-Davidson likely wants a replacement to run in events like the NHRA drag racing series.
That’s where this particular bike will be piloted for the rest of the summer, by riders Eddie Krawiec and Matt Hines.
This isn’t just a stock Street Rod with some mild engine massaging and a hot cam. Along with its re-worked engine, Vance & Hines also designed a new chassis for the bike that cuts weight and adds rigidity. There’s also new bodywork, aimed to cut down on wind resistance.
Harley-Davidson has not indicated whether it plans to offer this as a factory option, like the Destroyer model was.
If it turns out anything like the current HD ProStock bike, there won’t be many original parts left except maybe the tank decals.
