360fly to offer telemetry capability along with 360-degree video

On top of its existing 360-degree video capabilities, camera maker 360fly is now offering a telemetry overlay for its video, in conjunction with RaceRender.

Of course, displaying telemetry over video is nothing new — just tune into your MotoGP broadcast this weekend and you can see it. But for years, that tech required two separate pieces of equipment; a camera and some sort of transponder. Not with the 360fly system — it combines everything you need, and RaceRender can assemble that information in one tidy package on your screen.

To take advantage of the camera’s capabilities, 360fly users can upload their footage to RaceRender’s software, then integrate the information from the onboard GPS, gyroscope and accelerometer chips, and e-compass. They can then edit the video and share on YouTube or whatever other platform they want.

You can see a sample result in the video above. Theoretically, this level of video is now available at a consumer level, which is pretty cool — not long ago, this would have been reserved for professionals only, due to pricing and hardware restrictions.

Right now, 360fly’s cameras are selling for $299 US for the HD version, and $499 for the 4k version, at www.360fly.com.
