You’ll look less dorky on the Bolt M-1 moped (if it enters production)

Mopeds: Despite the attempts of the Moped Army, it’s pretty hard to look cool on one of these two-wheelers. But the people at Bolt are trying to change that with their new M-1 model, currently undergoing Indiegogo fundraising.

The Bolt M-1 moped has an electric motor, so technically, it’s not very different from those irritating electric step-throughs that are taking over urban centres, buzzing everywhere without paying insurance or registration. But at least, instead of going to the cheapest Chinese designer, the people behind the M-1 have put together a ride with some style — it’s the closest you’ll get to a classic cafe racer with pedals.

The M-1 has an Economy Mode and a Sport Mode. In Economy Mode, the battery supposedly gives an 80-km range, with a top speed of 32 km/h. In Sport Mode, riders get a 64 km/h top speed, but only a 48-km range.

Other features: The M-1 has a 220 mm disc brake up front and drum brake in back with regenerative braking. It has keyless unlocking and Bluetooth integration for a smartphone as well. All in all, it’s an impressive package for what’s usually a budget vehicle. Find out more here on Indiegogo, but before you lay any money down, remember there are no guarantees of production with that platform.

  1. The woman who promptly appear in the video at 0:04… You know the model types… reminded me so much of the funny & sarcastic story I first read here at CMG.. “Last really hot millennial girl picks up motorcycle sponsorship” And how does $6-7000 grab you?

  2. The woman in the video at no earlier than 0:04 reminds me of the great article… (I found here at CMG of course!) called “Last really hot millennial girl picks up motorcycle sponsorship” and…. I looked the webpage…How does $6-7000 USD grab you?

  3. I want one, so i can ride around with impunity and no insurance. Red lights? No problem, there’s sidewalks for that. Jump the curb, hit your car and hurt myself? No worries, you got insurance, I’ll just leach off yours.

  4. An e-bike by any other name is still an e-bike.
    Crowdfunding and no price ?
    Sounds like Tesla.
Oh well, the DUIs in my neighborhood will like it…
