One of Ural’s most popular models, the limited edition Sahara, is back in the lineup for 2016.
The Sahara is a special-edition version of the Gear Up, Ural’s 2wd sidecar rig that has roots going all the way back to the M72 motorcycles of Russia’s Nazi-busting troops of the 1940s (technically, the roots go even further than that, to the BMW R71 that saw use by the German military). Today’s version, while still somewhat agricultural in appearance and nature, integrates some modern touches like electronic fuel injection.
The Sahara takes things even further, with add-ons like LED lighting, Givi windshield, a 12v accessory plug, several luggage racks, hand guards, protective crash bars, and even an optional winch mount. No doubt the Soviet soldiers who rushed their motorcycles towards Berlin would have been very grateful for such modern touches! However, if they’d been required to save the $17,999 USD asking price, they would have likely been out of luck, as that would have been far beyond a Communist conscript’s pay grade.
But lucky you! You live in a Western society where a credit company will lend you the money you need. Find more photos, details, and a list of Canadian dealers, at Ural’s website here.
And here I hadn’t even noticed you were gone.
Glad you’re back Sahara !
and the big question why?
You ever tried keeping a motorcycle upright after a Vodka lunch?
