Breaking news from the IOMTT: Bikes still faster than cars

A specially-built Subaru has broken the Isle of Man TT’s lap record for cars on the 37-mile Mountain Course, but still falls short of the the motorcycle laps set this week.

Yesterday, Subaru issued a press release with details on their success with the Subaru WRX STI Time Attack Car at this year’s TT. On a closed course, with a professional driving (just like in the TV commercials!),  they managed a 128.73 mph lap with a 17:35 time. That beats the previous record of 116.47 mph/19:26. set by the same driver, Mark Higgins, and it’s a significant step forward.

However, it’s still well behind the lap records set this week at the Isle of Man. Michael Dunlop is currently the man to beat, with a 16:58 lap, which you can see above, in all its shock and awe.

The all-wheel-drive Subaru used to beat the record was specially-built for the task; find out more about that car here, if you’re interested in cages.
