Georgia man survives week trapped under motorcycle in ditch

A man from the US state of Georgia was recently rescued after spending eight days trapped under his crashed motorcycle.

According to WCTV, 63-year-old Roland Howard Goff crashed his Honda VTX1300 in mid-May while riding near his home. He landed underneath the motorcycle, and was unable to escape, due to its weight (339 kg wet weight, in case you wondered … ). Goff was found by a friend, who went looking for him after noticing the rider hadn’t posted on social media for a few days. Take that, Facebook haters!

Goff survived by drinking rainwater and eating whatever he could find in reach, although the article doesn’t elaborate on what that was. He was taken to hospital to have his leg treated, and to address his dehydration.

  1. Wow, I never leave home without my cell phone and my SPOT which is always turned on and in my jacket. How is it that we can afford to buy a motorbike and keep it on the road and yet will not spend 200 bucks on a SPOT device and 150 a year for monitoring, which might save our life or that of another friend or rider. Just buy one fellow riders, it is not complicated.

    • Yes, we collaborated with the Kurt Caselli Foundation to create the Tracker Packer, a ruggedized holster for the SPOT Gen3, enabling riders to keep the unit on their bodies in the event of a crash.

  2. This reminded my of a Modern Family episode where Phil gets trapped under Jay’s Harley and has to cut his pant leg off to get free.
