Kevin Lacombe returning to CSBK

A familiar name is back in the CSBK fold this summer, with news that Kevin Lacombe is returning to the Pro Superbike class.

Although Lacombe never won the national Pro Superbike title, he was a frontrunner in the past, starting his battles with the likes of Jordan Szoke and Steve Crevier in the mid-’90s. Crevier’s gone now, but Szoke is still around and still winning. Now Lacombe has his chance to renew their on-track battles. His last CSBK race was in 2012, when he was a privateer aboard a BMW S1000RR.

Lacombe will be riding a 2016 Yamaha R1S. His comeback starts at Shannonville, the same track where he had his first roadrace back in 1996. He’s going to run the RACE regional there, then follow up with the CSBK kick-off two weeks later. For now, he’s got sponsorship for that round, and St-Eustache, and he’s working on getting support for the rest of the series. Currently, he’s back by Motovan Corporation, the Motosport St-Cesairedealership, graphics company Kutvek Amerika and his chassis tech firm, Accel Suspension.

CSBK’s Pro Superbike class was looking fairly weak in recent years, but things seem to be changing quickly. Along with fresh blood that looks able to challenge for the front (see: Tomas Casas, Ben Young), several of the older riders from the series’ glory days are returning, setting the stage for a great match-up of youth vs. experience this summer.
