Cycle News magazine sold

A few days after shutting down the long-running MotoUSA website, sister publication Cycle News has been sold by the Motorcycle Aftermarket Group.

MAG bought Cycle News back in 2010, as part of the industry’s move towards vertical integration. It made sense at the time; if aftermarket manufacturers also owned magazines, the implications for marketing potential were tremendous. The industry was already moving towards conglomeration anyway, so why not take things to the next level?

But now it’s 2016, and for MAG at least, those plans haven’t worked out. Asphalt & Rubber says Cycle News has instead been sold to Powersport Media LLC, a new company partially owned by individuals who are already involved in powersports marketing. Hrmmm, powersports marketing meets magazine ownership — where have we heard that before? Hey, it seems to be working for Bonnier right now, anyway.
