Despite our modern age of global trade, there are still a lot of cool bikes you can’t buy in Canada. For whatever reason, the adventure riding market is one of the most impacted by this phenomenon. Here’s another new ADV bike that we won’t be getting here, and that’s too bad.
The AJP PR7 is a new entry in the mid-size class. While most of the Euro manufacturers have focused on adventure bikes 800cc and up, AJP has built this bike around a 600cc, four-valve, DOHC thumper provided by SWM. Naturally, it has EFI and liquid cooling.
While the Japanese have allowed the 650 class of adventure bikes and dual sports to stagnate, AJP’s machine looks like what North Americans have been wanting for years: A 650 with true rally styling. The bike is expected to weigh 165 kg wet, which is pretty decent considering it has a 17-litre tank.
The front suspension is supposed to be fully adjustable when the bike arrives, and both the front forks and rear shock are expected to be Sachs items. That means suspension should be far better than the Japanese competition, but it also means the price tag is going to be high. The machine is expected to sell for about 10,000 Euros when it hits the market next year — a price that North Americans would always balk at, and turn once again to their KLR650s.
It’s not quite a year since this article was written, but worth pointing out that the PR7 isn’t available anywhere yet. European Dealers are hoping for their first demo models in October, not sure if that’s still on track.
However the CCM GP450 is now available in Canada. You get it before the U.S.!
Comon Yamaha, bring us a new Tenere 700. I can’t wait forever
Yamaha Canada has proven to be deaf for quite a while in that matter.
Whats 10,000 euros in usd?
And yes the bike will come to canada and us
US $10,622 or C $14,123 so in reality should be around the price of a BMW 700 GS in Europe but considering that AJP is a small manufacturer and it wouldn`t be inported in great numbers it might not be able to sell at the same price in North America. I was expecting a lower price from AJP but sadly not.
Thanks for the reply

Really? Why is that? I’d love to know. Have you ridden the bike? Do you have any idea of how it performs?
Blame in part Transport Canada and it`s US equivalent and the size of the motorcycle market in Canada for the other part. But there is a possibility that reach our shores since there is an AJP importer in the US and a dealer in Canada although considering they didn’t go trough the homologation process to make the current bikes road legal in North America they could chose the same route for the PR7 but this would be a big mistake in my opinion.
I’m a Dealer in Denver Colorado (The Bike Shop LLC. ajpcolorado.com) the importer is working on getting the AJP PR7 through the EPA requirements to be street legal in the states.
Yes they did say so afterward. And I did heard of your shop before.
Others have touched on the reason why. I have never ridden one, BUT — I would love to see competition on the 650 segment, and some growth. It isn’t there, at the moment. Options are always good, even if you don’t exercise them.
Indeed.
