MotoGP Round 11 Qualifying – Grand Prix Ceské Republiky

The heat was on in Brno, as track temperatures seared around the 50º mark Thursday and Friday, shredding tires and reducing grip.  Yamaha factory teammates Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, the only men capable of realistically fighting for the 2015 MotoGP world championship, arrived at the historic Czech track expecting to qualify well (the circuit favours the Yamaha) but few expected the result.

Jorge Lorenzo set not only the fastest time for pole position, but smashed the lap record as well.  The Spanish two time world champion demonstrated again his pedantic approach to race craft, incrementally improving his lap times with each session by several tenths of a second through shear hard work.

Marc Marquez, fresh from two back to back victories is back on form and qualified second, while current world championship leader Rossi rounded out the front row in third place, setting the stage for tomorrow’s race.

Ducati’s Andrea Iannone squeezed into fourth place on his last qualifying lap, Tech 3 Yamaha’s Bradley Smith placed fifth and Iannone’s teammate Andrea Dovizioso qualified sixth.
