Best of the Rest

Welcome to Best of the Rest, an idea we’re trying out at CMG.

We’re not shifting towards becoming content curators; the plan is to still provide original content from the worlds of racing, adventure riding and general motorcycling news, like we always have. We just figured our readers might enjoy reading the same stories we enjoy reading, so we’re experimenting with the idea of a once-a-week collection of stories from other publications, with the sole aim of sharing the fun.

Check out the links, read the articles, and let us know if this format works, or could be tweaked. We didn’t receive any angry complaints last week, but if this format works for you, or doesn’t, please let us know.

Motorcycle.com – The Man Who Bought Buell: Bruce Belfer

Don't worry, this isn't about to be replaced by a cruiser.
Don’t worry, this isn’t about to be replaced by a cruiser.

So, last weekend’s big news about Erik Buell Racing’s sale left fans with new questions, the biggest being ‘Who is Bruce Belfer?” In this article, Andrew Capone answers that question, giving us a closer look at the man and his plans to resurrect America’s favourite sportbike company.

According to Belfer, “America needs another cruiser manufacturer like it needs a hole in its head,” so there’s no need to worry about EBR building some gargantuan pseudo-chopper anytime soon. At least there’s that.

In this piece, Siler lists the suit’s pros, and goes over what custom options he recommends. We, and just about any other journo we’ve talked to, agree on this one. Read the piece and figure out how to save up for your own.

Cycle World – Use  Your Imagination: Predict Hazards and Create a Plan to Avoid Them

What's the worst that could happen? Prepare for that.
What’s the worst that could happen? Prepare for that.

It’s not enough to just see what’s happening in front of you, says author Nick Ienatsch. You need to see more than the circumstances around you while you’re riding; you need to see what is going to unfold as a result of your surroundings. What’s the worst thing that truck could do? Can that car pull a left-hand turn in front of you? Is that ditch hiding a deer?

Long-term survival on the mean streets requires you hope for the best, and prepare for the worst, Ienatsch says, because frequently, that’s exactly what happens.

Asphalt & Rubber – Preview of the Czech GP: Yamaha vs. ???

The Brno circuit theoretically works well for Yamahas, but Hondas have been strong here for some time.
The Brno circuit theoretically works well for Yamahas, but Hondas have been strong here for some time.

A&R’s team of insiders provide a great look at all facets of international roadracing, week after week, all season long. Here’s David Emmett’s preview for this weekend.

He figures Yamaha has the edge, since Brno favours Yamahas, at least theoretically. Hondas have overpowered the competition there in recent history, though. The 2015 championship is closer and more exciting than it has been in a while, and this weekend will play a major part in determining who wins what.
