Luckiest motorcyclist in Canada?

An Ottawa-area rider has survived an incredible crash, hitting a deer with so much speed that he split the animal in half.

According to CBC, the rider was on Route 417 when he struck the animal at speed. A witness to the accident said the motorcyclist “literally split the deer in half,” resulting in a cloud of blood in the middle of the road. The rider flew off the bike and came to a halt 45 metres from the crash, and the bike traveled another 45 metres.

The CBC article says the rider was conscious when taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries to his legs. Which leaves us with this question: Is this the luckiest man on two wheels in Canada, or would it have been even luckier not to have hit the deer at all?

  1. If a rider tries to avoid wildlife, he usually ends up losing control and risks more serious injuries or …. Experts say it is best to try to plow thru the offender and try to maintain as much control of the bike as possible. It sounds like this rider did that. Any accident that a motorcycle rider lives to talk about is a good one, as accidents go.
