Tom Sykes says bike holding him back

After having the championship narrowly slip through his fingers in the final race weekend of 2014, Tom Sykes is off to a slow start in 2015, and he says it’s his motorcycle’s fault.

Jonathan Rea, who moved to the official Kawasaki World Superbike team in the off-season, is atop the WSB standings now, with 190 points. Despite some decent results, Sykes has not been able to follow his teammate’s rocket to success. Going into this weekend’s action at Imola Circuit, Sykes is mired in fourth, with 88 points.

Sykes believes his motorcycle is holding him back, but that should change.

“I have two main limitations on the bike right now, but when we cross those bridges I feel confident that I will be back to myself – and back to where we have been in the past three years, which is challenging and at the sharp end of the timing sheets,” he said. “I just want a package that lets me challenge the other guys at the end of the race.

“We have not had that yet but it is something we have had in the past and I do believe we are knocking on the door now, gradually getting that balance right for me now.”
