MotoGP – Gran Premio BWin de España – Qualifying

Four races into the 2015 season, and the title fight is up in the air as three manufacturers and four men seem capable of delivering winning results.

The MotoGP circus moved to Spain, the heart of motorcycle road racing.  This is the country where the MotoGP and SBK championship organizations have their headquarters, it is also the only country to host three rounds of the MotoGP and two rounds of the SBK championships, and is the nation with the most professional racers on the grid.

During free practice and qualifying, 2 time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo came back from two years of obscurity to dominate the proceedings.  He not only won pole position for Sunday’s race, but set a new circuit record, smashing the one previously set by Dani Pedrosa many years earlier.

Marc Marquez, battling pain from a broken finger, still managed to post the second fastest time, no mean feat.  Ducati’s Andrea Iannone placed third, and the Espargaro brothers Pol (on the Tech 3 Yamaha) and Aleix (on the resurgent factory Suzuki) snadwiched 9 times world champion Valentino Rossi who is still struggling with qualifying results.

“For sure [it] is better and we improve a lot” said Rossi, about this, his best quaifying result of the season “but we have to find more speed for the race.”

It is noteworthy that with Lozenzo now back to his old ways at the front, there are three multiple MotoGP champions now fighting for the win on Sunday with realistic chances or victory.
