Inside out: Photographer Nick Veasey’s new take on classic bikes

Good motorcycle photography is always enjoyable, but for most shutterbugs, it only goes skin deep. British photog Nick Veasey is taking things a bit further.

Instead of being content with the standard shots of corner-carving sportbikes or cruisers cast in the light of a sunset, Veasey is shooting classic bikes with the help of an X-ray machine. Ever wondered what a Matchless would look like, if only you could see inside the engine? Now you can, thanks to his photos. If you’re interested in classic bikes, you definitely need to scope out his site for the full series of shots.

On his site, Veasey says The X-rays reveal the skill and ingenuity that went into the design and manufacture of motorcycles from the beginning of the 20th century.  Fascinating in their detail, the project records the developments in engineering of the ‘golden age.’ “ It’s a great chance to see just how far motorcycle technology has come since the early days, but also to marvel at how much the early motorcycle designers were able to accomplish with rudimentary engineering and manufacturing processes available.

Some of Veasey’s shots are for sale, and he does have a dealer in Montreal, if you’re interested.
