Video: Volvo LifePaint

Volvo cars are famous for their safety – so much so that when Editor ‘Arris lived back in Jolly Olde England, Volvo drivers were feared by motorcyclists, who reckoned the cagers weren’t observant enough on the roads, thanks to their confidence-inspiring autos that left them sage in a crash.

However, Volvo’s not just interested in car safety. They’re interested in protecting other people using the roads as well. Check out the video below – the concept is demonstrated for bicyclists, but could be just as useful for motorcyclists as well.

The idea of having special paint to increase nighttime visibility isn’t new. Some other manufacturers have dabbled with the idea of glowing paints for nighttime use. However, Volvo has a lot more clout in the auto industry than some of the other outfits that have played with this concept. Maybe it’s something we’ll see on motorcycles in the near future, along with leaning ABS and traction control? It ought to be a much more affordable technology than those electronic aids, in any case.
