Video: Grassroots motorcycle racing meets art

grassroots motorcycle racing

Some folks might argue that bearded kids in skinny jeans have ruined the art of the motorcycle short film. Then, something like this video comes out and proves them wrong.

The film is about Dimitri Costa, a French photographer and motocross enthusiast, who loves to race. He pilots a 1967 Triumph in a wide variety of races, only switching the handlebars and the tires, in what he calls an attempt “to get closer to what amateur racing was back in the day.” In other words, he’s trying to get back to the origins of two-wheeled competition, the sort of grassroots motorcycle racing that featured in On Any Sunday.

You can read more about his background, and the background for this film (shot by Thibaut Grevet) on Nowness.com.

Sure thing, racing in a sweater, no gloves, no apparent protective gear except an old helmet, and work boots. Makes perfect sense. I suggest someone watch On Any Sunday again.
