The Smiths Racing Team is returning to the Isle of Man, and they’ve signed on an expert hand.

When TAS Racing announced they were using BMWs to challenge the Isle of Man TT this year, one question left hanging was whether or not Guy Martin would partake in the Supersport races, and if so, on what machine. Now we know: Guy Martin will race a Triumph Daytona 675 for Smiths Racing Team in both Supersport races.

Martin’s teammate will be David Johnson; Johnson, too, will ride a 675 in the Supersport races, and will pilot a BMW S1000RR in Superbike, Senior and Superstock.

“I wanted the best tool for the job in the Supersport TTs,” said Martin. “I reckon the Triumph is the bike to be on and I remember Gary Johnson passing me on the Sulby Straight on the Smiths Triumph last year..

Intriguingly, he added he is “planning a few jobs with the Triumph after the TT also so I’m looking forward to getting the job sorted.” Hrmmm …

A couple weeks ago, it seemed Guy Martin was contemplating the end of his roadracing career, with hints this TT could be his last. It’s good to see him entered in two more races; maybe now he can get that elusive win he’s chased for so many years.
