Like dirt bikes? Live in the GTA? Then maybe the Grand Prix De Mud on June 27 might be just what you need.
The GPDM is a new event run by ex-Dakar racer Lawrence Hacking, at the Mohawk Inn in Campbellville, the same location where his Overland Adventure Rally runs. This event is less about hauling your GS or KLR across the Patagonian plains, though – the focus is on dirt bikes, especially vintage machines. There’ll even be a vintage dirt bike display.
Aside from the vintage off-roaders, there’s also going to be grass track scrambles, an enduro section, a trials competition, a swap meet, and other stuff – organizers are still putting together details. They’re also saying there’s going to be a super-special guest, but won’t say who. We’re hoping for a zombified Steve McQueen, in keeping with the vintage theme, but we’d settle for Roger DeCoster.
There’s going to be overnight camping available at the nearby KOA, and rumour has it there might be events scheduled for Sunday, June 28 as well.
Hacking isn’t the only guy behind this event. Husqvarna is sponsoring it, and Sasquatch Cycle, the Southwestern Ontario Vintage Trials Group and Dual Sport Plus are all also helping to coordinate plans.
Want more details? There’s more information here and here, but it seems there’s plenty still up in the air. We’re sure we’ll have more to tell you soon.
