Although injuries ruined his roadracing season, Jordan Szoke still managed 14th in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy series.
BMW’s new race series counted points from superbike races around the globe (including BSB, CSBK, IOMTT and more); the idea was, the world’s top BMW privateer would win the trophy at the year’s end.
Szoke, a dominant force in Canadian Superbike racing, started off very well; he was hovering around the top of the contest’s standings for sometime, until his season-ending injury during a trials event.
However, Szoke’s early performance was still good enough to garner him 153.50 points, good for 14th place overall. Had he not been injured, it still would have been difficult to win; the top spot was taken by German racer Markus Reiterberger, who racked up 274 points between the FIM World Endurance series and a German national roadracing championship. Szoke, with only one series to compete in, would have been hard-pressed to win.
There were 69 entries in this year’s Motorrad Race Trophy, so a 14th place still puts Szoke well up the standings. As a result of his top-15 finish, BMW has invited him to Munich for the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Season Finale.
