Triumph announced two new models of their 800 cc Tiger today, the Tiger XR (cast 19-inch, 17-inch wheels) and the Tiger XC (spoked 21-inch, 17-inch wheels). Both models are also available in a high-spec “x” model.
Upgrades to the 800 lineup include ride-by-wire throttle, switchable ABS, traction control, new suspension, revised styling, redesigned ergonomics and improved fuel mileage on all models.
The three-cylinder motor has received transmission upgrades from Triumph’s Daytona 675, and is said to have smoother power delivery.
The street-friendly XRx also gets an advanced trip computer, Road and Off Road riding modes, three configurable riding modes, auto-cancel signals, cruise control, a centrestand, a hand guards, upgraded seats, an adjustable screen an extra 12V auxiliary power socket.
The dirt-friendly XCx has those options along with engine protection bars and an aluminum skid plate.
Both the XR and XRx have 43 mm Showa USD forks, with 180 mm of travel. Rear suspension is handled by a Showa monoshock with hydraulic preload adjustment.
The XC and XCx have WP 43mm USD forks with adjustable rebound and compression damping and 220 mm of travel. The rear monoshock is also from WP, with remote oil reservoir and hydraulically.
Both the XC and XR lines have 308 mm brake discs up front, with Nissin calipers. Rear brakes are courtesy of a single 255 mm disc with single-piston floating caliper. XCc and XRc riders can also further customize ABS interference through the use of the riding modes.
Fuel economy is improved 17 per cent across the board; supposedly, the bikes can now reach 65 mpg (Imperial). The 19-litre tank should give a range of around 435 km, theoretically.
Wet weight for the XC is 218 kg. The XCx weighs 221 kg wet. The XR weighs 213 kg, and the XRx weighs 216 kg.
Seat height for the XR series is 810-830 mm, or 790-810 mm with the optional low seat. The XC series has a 840-860 mm seat height, or 820-840 with the optional low seat.
Cosmetically, the bikes received a styling makeover, with lights that mirror the bigger 1200 Tiger series, along with some other bodywork tweaks.
