Cleveland Cyclewerks unveils 500 cc platform

Details are thin for now, but Cleveland Cyclewerks has unveiled a 500 cc motorcycle in Asia.

CCW first came to market with a 229 c, CG125-derived single-cylinder motor. They’ve moved on past that basic air-cooled mill to design a dual sport/supermoto built around a previous-generation CRF450 motor, and they also have a new play bike (dubbed the FXX), built along a similar design ethos to the Grom.

Now, they’ve taken their Misfit cafe racer and built a bigger, faster version, unveiling it at Indonesia’s Kustomfest. It’s built around a single-cylinder, oil/air-cooled 500 cc motor. Styling is just a bit more angular than the original Misfit, with lines starting to look slightly more like a naked bike and less like a cafe racer, but everything is still very stripped-down.

The new Misfit has USD forks up front, spoked wheels, a floating brake disc up front with wave rotor and four-valve OHC motor.

Aside from that, details are slim. We don’t know when the bike will get here, or if it will. CCW’s Canadian distributor had hoped to have their machines on the market this fall, but we haven’t heard anything about them for a while, so fans might be out of luck this year.

While Indonesia might seem like an odd choice to unveil a new bike, it makes perfect sense for CCW, for several reasons.

First of all, Indonesian buyers aren’t as well-heeled as their North American counterparts; they’re looking for a less expensive motorcycle, so a bike like this makes sense. Second, that country also has a huge, growing motorcycle market, where people actually buy machines get excited about them and ride the wheels off them. Third, CCW has always had hassles dealing with the EPA when getting their machines into North America, and they might be finding it easier to sell their bikes in other countries with less strict emissions rules.
